I'll guide each shot. Daily-use stool at KSh 3,500 — I'll pay special attention to the joints and the frame. 6 photos, about 2 minutes:

Shot 1 · Full view. Fit the whole stool between the corners. Natural light is fine here.

Shot 3 · Leg joint. Sogea karibu — closer. I want the joint where the stretcher meets the leg, filling the frame.
3 / 6
Wait — I can see something. There's a gap opening where that stretcher enters the leg. One extra shot: phone lower, looking up under the rail. This one matters.

Test 1 — The wobble test

Jaribu kutikisa — try to rock it

Put the stool on flat ground. Hold two opposite corners of the seat and push gently corner-to-corner, like wringing a cloth. Feel for movement in the frame, not the floor.

Test 2 — The bottle-top roll

No marble? A soda bottle-top works

Set a marble or bottle-top in the middle of the seat. Watch it for three seconds. On a level surface it stays put.

VERDICT

Fair — solid frame, two issues to price in

Good bones. Buy it if the fundi fixes the joint — or knocks the price down.

FLATNESS · MINOR
Seat tilts slightly

Your roll test confirmed it. Fine for sitting; annoying for a cup of chai.

COSMETIC
Cover worn at edges

Looks tired, changes nothing structurally. Re-covering is cheap if you care.

Couldn't verify: whether the timber is fully seasoned. Ask the fundi: "Mbao ilikauka muda gani?" — hesitation is information.

What I seeThe stretcher tenon isn't seated fully — there's a visible gap and the shoulder isn't tight against the leg.
What it means for youEvery sit flexes that joint. With daily kitchen use expect a real wobble in 6–12 months, then a loose leg.
The fixRe-glue and clamp — 30 minutes for the fundi, KSh 100–200 with materials. Done properly, this stool outlives the problem.
Say this to the seller"Nunua nitanunua — lakini rekebisha hii joint kwanza." (I'll buy — but fix this joint first.)

KKagua
This is a different chair, same family of problem: a joint that worked loose, the load shifted, and the seat split along the grain. The owner's repair cost more than the original fix would have. Loose joints don't stay small — movement is what kills furniture.

Ask about this stoolGrounded in your assessment
Sawa, but is 3,500 actually a good price? I saw similar in town for 2,800.
KKagua
The town one at 2,800 — did you check its joints? Price without quality is half a number. For this one: the frame is hardwood and square, which is the expensive part done right. With the joint re-glued, 3,500 is within fair range. Without the fix, I'd say 3,000–3,100, because you're inheriting a repair.
And if he refuses to fix it?
KKagua
Then the discount does the fixing. Any fundi can re-glue that joint — offer 3,000 and mention the gap specifically. Showing him this photo changes the conversation: it says you can see.

Compare candidatesTwo options, one decision
Stool · Jogoo Rd
FAIR · KSh 3,500

Hardwood frame, square. Needs joint re-glue. Seat tilts slightly.

Table set · Marsabit
SOUND · KSh 4,200

Heavier build, tight joints. Note: stump seats are rustic — check comfort.

KKagua
Per shilling of quality, the Marsabit set wins: no repairs needed and the shop's joint score is 4.8. The Jogoo stool is still fine if the fix happens and you only need one seat. Decide on: how many people sit, and whether KSh 700 matters more than a stronger start.
